Why You Need To Eat Butter

Why You Need To Eat Butter blog article by Jane Goodman of Goodman Holistic Therapies | Northampton 07908 010 005

We seem to be suffering an epidemic of hypothyroidism (an under-active thyroid gland) these days.

Eight years ago when I was training in yoga teaching, out of 9 students, 5 of us were hypothyroid. In my therapy work I see it all the time. Often the patient is totally unaware of their problem, having been told it's just their menopause (it more often affects women); sometimes they are given antidepressants and sent away.

In my case I was told that it was the menopause (it wasn't - I was still having regular periods). Then that it was Empty Nest Syndrome (it wasn't - my children were still at home). These first two could have been established had the doctor asked! Finally I was told by my doctor to get a hobby and to stop wasting his time!

Over the next few weeks I'm going to share some of what I've discovered about hypothyroidism over the last 15+ years, through my own experiences - those often very costly as I searched for a true diagnosis, the one I knew to be real, from private medicine. Here's one for starters:

Ditch the spread that spreads straight from the fridge. I don't care what it is, even if it's made from olive oil: throw it out and replace it with butter. Yep, good old-fashioned butter used for centuries by our ancestors. It's natural (but buy organic where possible) unlike the bleached and chemical-laden, artificial, factory-made-using-cheap-products rubbish!

They can actually interfere with your thyroid function by messing with your endocrine system, which the thyroid is an important part of.

****Butter contains butyric acid which boosts thyroid function****

So ditch the spreads and the guilt. FAT IS GOOD FOR YOU AND VITAL FOR YOUR HEALTH! Use butter in your baking, cooking and on your baked potatoes and sandwiches. It's not only good for you, it tastes delicious. Can you say the same of artificial spreads?
